WELCOME to californianativebulbs.com, the Web home of Far West Bulb Farm, and thank you for visiting.

There will be no 2008 season selling here on the Internet—unavoidable surgery for one of us is necessary at this time. However, we will honor our commitment to sell a limited selection of bulbs at the CNPS Redbud chapter sale in Grass Valley on Saturday, Oct 4.
We regret any inconvenience or dashed hopes; we plan to resume sales for the 2009 season!

The "Download List" button at the left will only download Growing Instructions until the start of the 2009 season (around Sept 7, 2009).

Be aware: We sell bulbs ONLY by mail order and ONLY when they are dormant, usually between September to October each year. This is a part–time project for us; we have other full–time jobs . . .
A big THANK YOU to all our customers, we really appreciate your support. And thanks to our many visitors who gave us valuable feed-back and encouragement.

Please see the bottom of the page for answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).

HOW THIS SITE WORKS:
Click on any button on the left to move around the site (you can find where you are at any time by looking at the navigation bar at the top and bottom of every page). All the blue, underlined paths in the navigation bars are live links; click on them to move directly to that page. Scroll down this page to learn more about what each button does.

The PLANT LIST button takes you to the illustrated online catalog showing the selection and prices of bulbs we offer for sale. It is updated in late August each year, when we finally know how the crop has turned out.
• If you are in a hurry and know exactly what you are looking for, click here for our QUICK LIST. This is a short list by scientific name that shows what we had for sale in 2007, for your information only. During the selling season, this list also shows our current inventory; we update it each day.

The DOWNLOAD LIST button downloads —during the selling season only— the Order Form, Conditions of Sale, and Growing Instructions to your computer (outside the season, only the Growing Instructions are available). Print these, show your choices on the order form and send in with your payment (we don't take credit cards). You can't download the order form outside of the selling season.
You will need "Adobe Acrobat Reader" to read and print the order form; if you don't have this program, it is available as a free download from Adobe. Click here: (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html) to go directly to their site, where you can download the version that matches your computer and operating system.
If you encounter problems downloading the file, save it to disk and then open the .pdf file. If you have a PC, right click on the link and save to the desktop, then double click on the pdf file when it is finished saving.  If you have a Mac, hold down the mouse button over the link, save the file to the desktop, and open it from there.

Click the HOW TO button to find out how we grow our bulbs (last updated Sept. 2003). Use this information any way you wish; we want to encourage people to grow and spread these beautiful bulbs as widely as possible. The last part is a brief list of useful references; we especially draw to your attention the beautifully illustrated book Wild Lilies, Irises and Grasses: Gardening with California Monocots edited by Nora Harlow, Kristin Jakob (University of California Press) which covers detailed growing conditions for all the bulbs we sell. Also, if you find out something new, or have a better way of doing things, please tell us, and we'll pass it on! This section also lists resources that aren't on the web. And Nancy, a landscape designer with 26 years experience, has written a short article on gardening with native bulbs. Click here to see it.

The PHOTO GALLERY button guides you on a tour of some native bulb flowers. Be aware that the pictures file sizes are larger than in our on-line catalog, and will take longer to download. We hope you'll enjoy them as you have the time.

The LINKS button takes you to other interesting web sites which we think you'll find useful, including sites that show average precipitation maps for California and Oregon. Please tell us if there are other sites to which you think we should link.

The ABOUT US button takes you to a page with more information about us, and how best to contact us by mail, phone or e-mail.

Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs)!
Our mail–order–only, retail–only nursery is located in Grass Valley, Northern California. We grow and sell about thirty species of California native bulbs (the number varies according to harvest and other conditions each year), are experimenting with another thirty, and hope to add a few new ones each year if things go well. We do not export bulbs outside the contiguous United States. We don't sell seeds. We don't sell wholesale, though we do contract grow. All our bulbs are grown from seed or mother plant offsets/divisions; no bulbs are collected from the wild. Starting in 2004, we sometimes sell bulbs grown by others, and we encourage more growers to contact us. We no longer accept order reservations in advance. Sorry, we don't do nursery tours, sell from our nursery, or make local deliveries.
